“You see things; and you say ‘Why?’

But I dream things that never were; and

I say ‘Why not?’”

-George Bernard Shaw

What is the first thing you notice while watching this picture of an old man? What are we going to achieve by this article?  How it is going to benefit us in Design Process

Let us answer these questions and dive in deep in this field of creativity.

While I was reading this article on creativity, I discovered some strange facts that I never imagined before. There is no Olympic games or competitions for creativity or a measuring scale (IQ). Therefore, how you are going to say that this child do have a sense of creativity in him. One simple technique can be sneaking out in his/her room and looking at the back page of every notebook. Do you see any doodles or any weird stick figures, floating alphabets? If yes, then my friend that kid is going to change the world!

Now, you must be wondering how this abstract anthology will help you in design education. Think again my friends, this time think like a child!

The Hat of knowledge that we all unknowingly wear is never appreciated in real world. If you are a creative genius like Frida Kahlo or Pablo Picasso, then you might stumble upon the list of beautifully disturbed minds. I wonder at times, what goes inside the minds of these geniuses when they are rapidly making wild brush strokes on their canvas. Somebody at a point of time thinking, it is just an old trash or child’s fallacy, created all the beautiful things in this world. Later did they realized they were the hidden gems wearing invisible hat of vast knowledge that could have been inspiration for young generations.

What does creativity mean to you? Is it cutting uneven shapes on paper or stitching clothes for your doll.

Is it making a sand castle on your favorite beach or just writing poems in room all alone. My friend, you are already an artist!

To find out whether you are a creative genius or not, follow these steps:

  1. Grab a pencil. Write your heart out.
  2. Jot down the most important points.
  3. Stuck at design process, create mind map & brainstorm
  4. Boil down to what you love the most.
  5. Keep this plan in head.
  6. Take action!

I am sure you will find your hearts calling, your true passion. In addition, my friends have courage to fight for your dreams and create no matter what. Creativity needs courage and you have all power in your hands to make this work. Knowledge is a beautiful gift, which cannot be taken.

How can you spread this knowledge anyway and use it in your design solution?

  1. Do not focus on solution, focus on understanding the problem.
  2. Always look for alternate uses in case of problem identification.
  3. Thinking out of the box? Well, there is no such box! Generate as much ideas as possible.
  4. Highlight the important point and start working on it.
  5. Write, draw, prepare, execute and present.
  6. Always show up, gain that self-confidence. You have got this!

Rest assured my friend, you have done your best. Until then, keep scribbling on walls…keep creating something out of nothing.

Keep exploring this beautiful world because you are Creative. Chao! ;)
