What is the exam pattern?
The exam is conducted in 2 stages:
Stage 1: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) prelims.
About DAT Prelims:
It consist of an exam of 3 hours duration and 100 marks. The question paper is in English only.
Based on DAT prelims, candidates are shortlisted to appear in DAT mains.
About DAT Mains:
It consist of tests in multiple formats in studio-setup conditions.

I have no knowledge of sketching and drawing. Where to start?
If you have seen the syllabus for part-B, you have the list of topic for drawing section. Search for each topic on YouTube. On each topic you'll find hundreds of videos.
Just watch them first. Next, take a sheet and pencil and start drawing.
That's it.
Keep your focus on perspective and proportion while drawing!

Am I creative enough to crack this exam?
This is a tricky question. We don't know you will crack this exam or not. But, we are sure anyone can clear the NID exam.
Find the answer to this one yourself.
Is there any book to prepare from?
No. There is no book for any design entrance exam. That doesn't mean you are on your own in this preparation. There are certain topics that are regularly asked in the exam.
We have made a list of those topics.
How much time I should devote for preparation?
Depends how you assess yourself. For students lacking in drawing section should devote more time on it. As, NID entrance test is skewed towards drawing section.
Otherwise, on an average devoting 2-3 hours daily would be enough.
Having said that, try to avoid measuring your preparation in terms of time devoted. Try to enjoy this process of preparation.

How to prepare for current affairs?
Current affairs questions asked in NID are very general in nature. One need not prepare it for the whole year. Last 2-3 months current events would suffice. We post videos of current affair compilation of last 3 months before the exam on YouTube. Do watch it!
Is Manorma Year Book helpful?
If you have some idea about the type of questions asked in NID or any design entrance exam per se, you must have noticed that the questions are asked in visual form. General knowledge books available in the market are heavily loaded with facts only. Also, the questions asked in the exam are very general and not more than 7-10 questions are asked.
In such a situation, reading a bulky book of 400-500 pages is not a smart move.
Therefore reading Manorma Year Book for design exam is a deviation from the target.
How to create portfolio?
Portfolio is needed only for Master's students. NID at B.Des level has stopped asking for portfolio.

How to start my preparation for NID?
The NID entrace paper is skewed towards drawing section unlike UCEED/CEED where more logical questions are asked. Thus, start with mastering the drawing/sketching skill. Also, in NID exam speed matters.

How to start preparing?
It is important to understand the exam before you start with your preparation.
First step in this direction would be to see the previous year questions and try to give it an attempt. Understand the marking scheme and sections asked in the exam.

When is the right time to start?

At what rank will I get admission in IIT?
Just remember you have to be in the top 100. In fact don't think about it now. Just keep preparing! Keep practicing!
Is there any book to prepare?
No. Not one that can be recommended.
Questions in the exam are designed. In such scenario, it would be difficut to create a book for such exam.
We have answered this question in our video on "preparation".
Is there any percentage criteria for admission?
We have not heard of any such criteria. Will update if anything of that sort happens.
Though the chances are less for having any percentage criteria.
What salary can one expect after B.Des from IIT?
This is a difficult question to answer, particularly post pandemic world. But, we are sure you are aware of the fact that if you have graduated from IIT, you'll not have think about job and salary in the industry. You will be easily absorbed and will be amongst the highest paid.
Note: Salary, perks and incentives depends on individual and his/her portfolio.
Is there any interview round after UCEED?
No.
Final admission is on the basis of rank in the UCEED. So, you don't have to worry about portfolio or studio test.

Is coaching needed to clear this exam?
No. Everything is available on the internet. All you need is some commitment and practice.
Here PYQ's are game changing.
But, I have already enrolled with a coaching institute, how to use it?
It is alright.
Use this opportunity to take your preparation at a higher level. Regularly get yourself evaluated and ask your coaching institute to provide as many mock tests possible.
I am not able to solve previous year questions, how to do it?
Start with non-Verbal reasoning and Logical reasoning questions.
You can find them on the internet easily. After few weeks move to previous year questions. We have uploaded solutions of UCEED-2020 watch them but first attempt the paper yourself. Use these links.

I draw sketches. Can I show you?
Ohh you sketch! Good.
But we have a piece of sad news for you. This is not Design!
You know you sketch well, this means you have good handling skills. Use it in the exam to score well. Design as a profession is more than drawing and sketching. It is about the way of thinking and coming up with ideas. Work on improving this.
Your sketches/drawing in CEED will not be of much help for the portfolio as well. So, better keep it to yourself.
